What do Chemists do?

Thank you to all members that took part in the survey of chemistry expertise in July 2015. Here is a sample of the work ACPA members do.

ACPA Receives Government Grant

The ACPA has recently been awarded a grant of close to $50,000 from the Alberta Government through the Foreign Qualification Recognition Innovation Fund. The money will be used to develop an online Jurisprudence Learning Module for chemists. The module should be ready in January 2017.

PAHs in Western Canada: Biogenic vs Petrogenic Sources, Environmental Consequences and Regulatory Guidelines

Dr. Court Sandau

Instructor

November 9-10, 2015

Hotel Blackfoot, Calgary

Early Registration Deadline extended to

October 16, 2015

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous contaminants in the environment. They are present in the air we breathe and the fish and food we eat. PAHs are derived in natural processes, diagenic processes and largely from combustion processes. Their prevalence in the environment makes their understanding important for all environmental practitioners. PAHs are present in low percentage amounts in crude oil, making them important for those working in the oil industry as well.

This course will provide comprehensive coverage of many aspects of PAHs from fundamentals to advanced knowledge and usage of PAH data. The course will include: structures and nomenclature, physical-chemical properties, analytical measurements, toxicity and risks, regulatory guidance, remediation and environmental forensics. The course is designed for all environmental practitioners including natural sciences and engineering professionals.

course flyer and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Visit our ACPA website to register and for additional information.

The Hotel Blackfoot has rooms available November 8 - 11, 2015 for those who need accommodations to attend this course. Please call 1-800-661-1151 and quote Booking ID #10238 to get the ACPA room rate of $169 (Signature Room).
