What is your ACPA
membership worth to you?
- Right
to Title - professional designation and stamp
- Accountability
- Credibility
- Increased
employment opportunities
- Continuing
Education opportunities
- Increased
networking opportunities
- Formalized
complaints and discipline processes
- Member
of a well respected organization
Did you know that ACPA members and other
professionals that own their own businesses do not have to pay for
a business license?
That's right. Under POARA, "no municipality has the power to require any
member of a registered association to obtain a licence from the
municipality to engage in the field of practice established by the
registered association under the regulations." That is an annual saving of $50 to $500 or more
depending on your business and municipality.
Did you know that ACPA
members can claim their membership fees on their tax form?
Your membership fees are entered on Line 212 of your
T1 General under annual union, professional or like dues. Your fees
are subtracted directly from your income to calculate your net
income. For the average member this would represent a saving of
roughly $75. (Of course, if your employer pays your fees you can't
use this deduction.)
Did you know that ACPA members can save big money on
insurance premiums?
- Home and Auto
Insurance - TD Meloche Monnex
- Professional and
General Liability Insurance - starting this fall.
- ARTA Benefit plan
for members over 55 - starting this fall.
- Park'N
Fly airport parking - save about $18 on one week's parking.

NEW - Health, Dental and
Travel benefit plan for ACPA members over 55
ACPA is
pleased to announce a new retiree benefits plan for eligible ACPA
retired members.
ACPA has
worked with the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA) to
make the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan available to eligible ACPA
retirees (present and future).
If you apply
between September 1, 2016 and November 30, 2016, you
are automatically approved for coverage, which includes Emergency
out of Canada travel insurance.
The ARTA
Retiree Benefits Plan offers four Extended Health Care plans to
choose from. Coverage highlights include: prescription drugs,
paramedical coverage (chiropractor, physiotherapist massage, etc.),
coverage for wheelchairs, hearing aids and CPAP machines, and much
more. There are also three Dental Care plans to choose from, which
include dental exams, cleanings, fillings and minor and major
restorations.
The
following documents provide all the information you need to enroll
in the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan:
You can also sign into your ACPA account on the ACPA
website at www.pchem.ca and view
this information on the Members Only Benefits page under the Member
Menu.
You do not
need to participate in this plan right now in order to get coverage
in the future. As long as you join the ARTA plan following
termination of coverage from your employer's (or your spouse's)
group benefits plan, you may get coverage without medical evidence
of insurability as long as you submit your application within 60
days of losing group benefits coverage.
If you have general questions about the ARTA Retiree
Benefits Plan, or your eligibility to participate, please contact
ARTA toll-free at 1-855-212-2400 or by email at info@arta.net.

Call for Mentees and
Mentors
WISER (Women
in Science Engineering and Research) and UA-WiSE (University of
Alberta - Women in Science and Engineering) are starting the second
year of their mentorship program that will support men and women in
various stages of their STEM careers. WISER is pleased to
invite ACPA professionals to be part of the WISER\UA-WiSE
Mentorship Program 2016-2017.
The
structure will be trios consisting of one undergraduate student,
one graduate student or early-career professional, and one
experienced professional. This benefits graduate student or
early-career professional to gain some experience mentoring an
undergraduate student under the supervision of an experienced
mentor. We are currently looking for applicants from academia,
industry and government in the Edmonton area.
Mentorship hours count towards Professional
Developments Credit (PDC) for APEGA & ACPA members.
